Life cycle of a frog

 Milo learned about the life cycle of a frog at block class today.  Miss Lesley was gone today so he got to join another classroom.

Experiments and opposites with Donna

Donna came over today and we did an experiment with food coloring and we mixed the colors to make new colors. We also put strips of paper towel that had a different colored lines drawn on each strip into a plastic bag and we added about 12 drops of water. We watched the water mix with the marker and get wicked up the towel. We saw that the pigments separated back out.

We also talked about opposites and I made a book of opposites. Large and small. High and low.

I Drew an apple

Donna came over this morning. I drew three apples. A whole apple, the apple with bits taken out, and the apple core.

We also wrote a story.

Milo With the angry bird launcher

We went to high V and target today.
I took pictures of pumpkins and and an angry birds launcher.

Milo went to block class on Wednesday.   He is in the kindergarten and first grade class.  Milo is in first grade this year.

Dentist in Iowa city

We traveled to Iowa city yesterday and all four boys had teeth cleanings NF check ups at the dentist at the university.
Milo has a few cavities. He will go back sometime this month to have them filled. Milo was excited to make this trip and was mellow and cooperative through the whole visit.

We stopped and had snacks at a rest stop afterwards.

Handstand

Milo jumped up and down,clapped, and high fived everyone when he was successful at doing a headstand! He had a huge smile on his face!

Toontastic App with Donna

Donna, our visiting home instruction teacher,  comes over every other week to work with Milo and Sam.  Today she introduced Milo to the Toontastic ipad app.   It is a storytelling and animation app.
We discovered that the app is free and downloaded it for the boys as the enjoyed it so much with Donna.

Reading and yoga

Today we tried out the Spectrum K reading workbook. Milo was engaged and successful. I am gauging where he is in his reading. He seems to have a solid grasp of letter identification and the sounds they make.

He did a Cosmic Kids yoga from YouTube and we also painted leaves to add to our word tree. He chose "with" and "the" for his words to work on.

Today Milo and I did two sessions of Cosmic Kids Yoga. They are videos I found on YouTube. They tell fun stories and incorporate imagination and yoga together. Milo asked to do the second one!

School books

Milo is in first grade this year! We are homeschooling this year and enrolled in home instruction. Today we picked up some books and curriculum from the office at Central Campus.

Summer reading program

I read 15 hours to the boys to complete the summer reading program. They got coupons, a soft cover book, and a cool blue t-shirt.

Giraffe and zebra puzzle

Milo and I put together the giraffe and zebra riding bicycles puzzle. Its a 24 Piece puzzle. right after putting it together the first time Milo said "again again!".

Pigs and horses at the state fairgrounds

We look at pigs and horses today at the state fairgrounds.

New shoes in the mail

Milo got some new shoes today and calls them gecko shoes.

Writing letters

Fishing with Sam

Sam took Milo fishing for the very first time. They didn't catch anything but they had some nibbles. They both had a great time and look forward to fishing again and have already asked for a ride over to Copper Creek so they can fish together.

Progress in coloring

Milo asked me to draw a picture of Chucky from the Rugrats so he could color it. It used to be that Milo would ask Archimedes to color for him. Milo has made great improvements in his coloring and colored in this picture of Chucky and tommy.

The incredible machine

Donna, our home instruction teacher, recommended the iPad game the incredible machine. Milo likes to play.

Made a puppet at school

Milo made a puppet after reading Goldilocks and the three Bears with his class. He was excited to tell me the story of Goldilocks.

Taking note that he wrote his name backwards on his puppet. He has written his name backwards on other things.

First swim lesson

Milo was quite nervous and full of questions about the things that he would learn in swim class. He was excited and smiley waiting for class to begin.

He is in a group of six kids and his teacher's name is Erin.
He learned that if he kept moving in the pool he would stay warm. Milo blew bubbles in the water,kicked his feet, and worked on floating on his back. He floated on his belly blew bubbles and kicked his feet While Erin pulled him around the pool.

Milo thought it was pretty cool to stand on the bottom of the pool, walk, and bounce on his tippy toes.

After class he asked his teacher what her name was and told her that he would like to come back next week.

Practicing fine motor skills

Milo worked on writing numbers today. He got off the bus and said he had a great day with a big smile on his face.
Instead of saying he has breakfast and lunch at school, he said first and second lunch. It makes me think of Hobbits :)
Milo was happy to have helped out mrs. Brehm cleaning off her table.

Twenty books

Milo just read his twentieth book from school!

He was upset coming home saying that Mrs. Brehm wasn't happy with his counting to one hundred but I couldn't get him to elaborate further.

Milo loves lunch. He has tried new foods at school and was quite excited about the baked beans!

Counting to one hundred, a duck, and trampoline

Milo has been running to the backyard as soon as his feet touch the ground getting off the bus! We got a trampoline two days ago and it's been great fun for Milo and his brothers.

When he came in for a snack today he told me that he worked on math at school today. He practiced counting to 100 on counting paper.

Sam got a duckling from our beekeeper friend, Jerry. Milo thinks Alphonse the duck is pretty cool!
